Support Bird

How can we help?

Frequently asked questions

General questions

How to install Bird Eats Bug?

Mainly development teams: PMs, Engineers, QA and Designers. Extend this to other teams in your company - and you will avoid getting unclear bug reports and unproductive communication.

How is Bird different from SDK-based tools?

  1. SDKs only report exceptions, not visual or behavior bugs
  2. It works even if you have an ad blocker
  3. No coding, so anybody can set it up in under 5 minutes

How is Bird different from user session recording tools?

Tools like Hotjar or FullStory are designed to track your users, while Bird is focused on helping you report and fix bugs before users even see them, i.e. on your pre-production environments. This also means that Bird does not violate your users' privacy and helps you avoid issues with GDPR.

Is Bird a replacement for application monitoring or automated testing tools?

Bird is actually complementary to the tools like Sentry, Bugsnag, Selenium, Cypress, etc., as it mostly helps with the bugs that are either not covered by automated tests or don't necessarily throw an error / exception. 80% of the bugs are caught on pre-production environments and that's where Bird is especially helpful.

What about privacy and security? Is my screen recorded all the time?

No. Recording happens only on the URLs you specify. Also, the data doesn't leave your machine before you upload it to share with your teammate. And when you do upload it, it's stored in the EU.

Guide to reporting bugs with Bird

How to install Bird Eats Bug?

You need to install a light-weight browser extension from the Chrome store and create an account. It doesn't require any technical knowledge and takes less than 5 minutes.

How to report bugs with Bird?

To make a perfect bug report you need to get Bird Eats Bug Chrome extension, start recording the page where the bug occurs, reproduce the bug, stop recording, upload it and share URL with your team. Bird will capture various technical data automatically - no extra work or setup required from you.

Why should I use Bird for reporting bugs?

  1. It saves you time, as you don't need to type anything or launch a separate application
  2. It saves your colleagues time, as they get the data they need to fix the issue
  3. You don't need any technical skills to create data-rich bug reports every single time

Do I need to create an account to use Bird?

Yes, because that way you can always access and manage your previous recordings. Don't worry though, creating an account is super quick - like everything with Bird, actually :)

Why do I need to enable Bird on new domains?

That is done for privacy reasons, i.e. so that you don't accidentally record yourself typing a password or your personal sensitive data. You can also change the default settings to have Bird enabled on all pages automatically.

Features and functionality

What technical data does Bird capture?

Today Bird is able to record the following: steps to reproduce (clicks and URLs), console logs, warnings, network requests, system information (browser, OS, time). Our goal is to also bring the following types of data soon: sourcemaps, network requests, Redux logs, iFrame errors, etc.

Can I take a screenshot with Bird?

Absolutely. It's very quick in fact to annotate them too. And screenshots also come with console logs and other technical information - just like our screen recordings.

Will you offer other ways to report bugs (other than browser extension)?

Yes, this is on our roadmap for 2022. We plan to build an SDK, where, with a little bit of code you will be able to make Bird available to anyone (i.e. on your pre-production environment) without the need to install our browser extension.

Where do you store videos and other data?

All our data is stored in the European Union. It is also encrypted at rest with 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard and in transit with SSL.

How can I move the sessions to another workspace?

1. Go to the Dashboard of your workspace
2. Hover over the session that you need to move
3. Select it with checkbox on the left
4. Select other sessions you want to move (or Select All but clicking the checkbox in the header of the session list)
5. On the top right click the icon "Move selected"
6. Select the workspace you want to move the sessions to

Free and paid plan updates

What's with the new pricing?

On Aug 19, 2021, Bird Eats Bug made some changes to both the Free and paid plans.

What are the Free plan changes?

Free users now have access to shared workspaces. We made team workspaces free (a previously paid feature). Free users can now:

  • Share team workspace, invite your team and report bugs to a shared space.
  • Share bug reports privately.
  • Invite admins and bug reporters (who can only upload bugs to your workspace with limited privileges for accessing other settings and workspace content).

What are the changes to the Starter, Team, and Big Team plan?

We previously had multiple plans (Starter, Team, and Big Team) for different groups of users. This has now been simplified into a single plan priced at $8 per user that is called the Business plan. This gives paying users access to an additional user role called a "Member" in addition to the admin and bug reporter role in the free plan, for more user access control management.

In short, paid plan changes are:

  • Only pay for admins or full members at $8/user/month (unlimited sessions and unlimited bug reporters).
  • Downgrade Inactive "full member" to a "bug reporter". You can add unlimited bug reporters for no additional cost on your paid plan.

How do I know if my team needs a custom plan?

Custom plans are good for:

  • Teams with over 20 users or more
  • Companies that have special requirements
